WHAT IS THE MAKE SHARK?
The Mako Shark is on of the worlds
fastest sharks. It can travel up to 22 miles per
hour. Most large Make sharks are found in colder
waters and the mako is at the top of the food chain
in the Atlantic ocean. They are also great for leaping
out of water. Fishing groups go out trying to catch
them to see their great 30 inch jumps out of water.
Makos average 5-8 feet (1.5-2.5 m) long but can
reach 12 feet (3.7 m) long, about weighing 1,000
pounds (450 kg). Mako's are found in temperate and
tropical seas and not in arctic ones. They are deep
ocean swimmers and hunters but they are also found
to come inshore often. Makos diet includes school
fish, tuna, herring, mackerel, swordfish and dolphins.
But they are not picky eaters when hungry and will
eat almost anything.
